Mazda was supposed to have a North American luxury brand known as “ Amati ” launched in 1993 in order to compete with Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti. Though the Amati name is best known for an artisan family that crafted some of the greatest and most prestigious violins in history, it also happens to be an anagram for Miata . Amati = Miata. Even when you need a name for your new luxury brand,

It was a warning! Always Miata, Answer the IS (Lexus). Answer Miata, “Always the IS.” The Prophet Miata warned us that the future of Lexus would be ugly and numb. Miata gives only one answer and that answer is Miata, our redeemer. Praise Miata, apex!
Haha, “All Miatas Are Tiny Inside!” Only truth can come out of Amati because Amati is Miata and Miata is truth!!

That can’t have been a coincidence. Probably some cheeky marketers backstage...anyways, I’m still salty about not getting the 1000 W12

Honda manages to sell every NSX it makes with a Honda badge except here - in US America where we need an Acura badge. I weep for our nation - the car with the Acura badge goes around the Nurburgring 8/10 of a second faster? NO IT DOES NOT. Stop it. STOP THIS BADGE ENGINEERING. It’s a fast Honda, and if you refuse to buy it because that badge is on it the states, I’ll introduce you to my right foot - up against your balls.

Or maybe they just let Yoda name the brand.

The base car without the W12 was sold as the Mazda Sentia, so at least we got that (I still wish the Amati project was successful though).

I guess the Sentia was developed based on the 1000 concept so many styling cues were similar but the cars weren’t exactly identical. Only a 3.0 V6 though, that’s smaller than even our minivan.

Well, the Sentia was first launched in 1991 whereas the Amati project was scheduled for 1993, so I guess it’s the other way round anyway.
I don’t know any minivans with a larger engine size than 3.0 though.

Must have been that the 1000 was planned but the Sentia was their “just in case this doesn’t work so we already have a big car in our lineup” plan. Anyways, here in the states most minivans have big engines, our ‘05 Odyssey has a 3.5 liter V6 and Chrysler used to have a massive 4.0 back in 2010ish.

Ah right, the more you know. That explains why the Bismoto Odyssey has a modified 3.5l block too.

Yep, same engine as our Ody with just a bit more turbo...
